Dr Philip Lowe’s career at the Reserve Bank of Australia spanned more than 43 years, culminating in the role of Governor from 2016 to September 2023. He was Chair of the Reserve Bank Board and Payments System Board, and Chair of the Council of Financial Regulators. He also chaired the Committee on the Global Financial System of the Bank for International Settlements from 2018 to 2023.

Dr Lowe holds a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours and University Medal) in Economics/Econometrics from the University of New South Wales. He has authored numerous papers, including on the linkages between monetary policy and financial stability.
