“Our pro bono fund managers, directors, and supporters are delivering more than investment returns. Together with our shareholders, they’re helping shape a better future for the next generation.”
Blending best-in-class investment management with best-in-class philanthropy, Future Generation gives you access to leading fund managers, without paying management or performance fees, so you can support Australian non-profits – without compromising your investment returns.
The story of Future Generation begins in 2012 when our founder, Geoff Wilson AO, came across an article in London’s Financial Times. It profiled a group of prominent UK investors raising £500 million for a pioneering fund designed to generate millions each year for cancer research. What made the fund extraordinary was its structure: the managers had agreed to permanently waive all their usual fees to maximise their charitable donation.
Geoff, Founder of Wilson Asset Management and a committed philanthropist, was inspired. He saw the potential to bring the Australian investment community together to drive large-scale, sustainable social change.
On his return to Australia, Geoff drew on his deep experience in listed investment companies (LICs) to launch Future Generation Australia in 2014, followed by Future Generation Global in 2015. He rallied dozens of leading fund managers – including many direct competitors – to manage capital for these companies entirely pro bono, waiving both management and performance fees.
This innovative model enables Future Generation Australia and Future Generation Global to donate 1% of their net tangible assets each year to not-for-profits supporting at-risk children and youth mental health – without compromising investor returns.
From the outset, Geoff set what he called a “big, hairy, audacious” goal: to raise $100 million for charity by 2030. In 2025, we surpassed that target five years ahead of schedule.
At the same time, our focus on delivering long-term capital growth and a reliable, tax-effective income stream for shareholders remains unwavering.
This is our story – and it’s only the beginning. We invite you to be part of it.
