Our Approach

At Future Generation, we believe that by supporting young people and women, we unlock potential that drives positive change across entire communities.

Through our unique model, we invest 1% of net assets each year into high-impact Australian non-profits – without compromising shareholder returns. To date, we have donated $100 million to organisations that support vulnerable children, improve youth mental health, and advance economic opportunity for women.

Together, we’re not just giving – we’re helping to build a stronger, fairer, and more inclusive future for all Australians.

Total social investment since inception

Best-in-class philanthropy

Under our Social Impact Director Emily Fuller, we take a strategic approach to our giving program to ensure that we get the greatest impact from each dollar donated. We aim to achieve excellence in private giving which, to us, means funding areas that are over-looked and underfunded – but have huge potential to do good.

“Australians want to be a nation of givers, but they want to do that in a structured way. People have a very low tolerance for just giving money away; they want to understand what impact their giving is having.”

Jennifer Westacott AC, Chair of Future Generation Global

How we do it

Mutli-year funding

Providing multi-year, untied funding to our social impact partners, as well as additional capital to develop their organisations.

Backing growth

Investing in small-to-medium sized non-profits with proven track records but enough runway to grow and deepen their impact.

Diversified support

Funding a complementary group of non-profits for the same reasons that fund managers build a diversified investment portfolio: to minimise risk and maximise returns.

Measuring impact

Measuring the individual and collective impact of our non-profit partners to learn and grow, while ensuring accountability to our shareholders. Read our Future Generation Global Impact Report.

Open processes

Holding open Expressions of Interest (EOI) processes to ensure we are accessible to the many incredible organisations beyond our networks (e.g. 330+ applications for our Future Generation Australia 2024 EOI campaign).

Driven by lived experience

Ensuring we are informed by evidence and “lived experience” when it comes to building our social impact portfolio (including drawing on the insights of Youth Advisors in selecting our non-profit partners).

Unlisted Trust

Voting - Be part of our impact

Each year, Future Generation Australia (ASX: FGX) and Future Generation Global (ASX: FGG) shareholders have the opportunity to vote and allocate their portion of our annual social investment to one or more of our social impact partners. The social investment is equal to 1.0% of the average net tangible asset of each company.

Whether supporting Australian children facing adversity to thrive (Future Generation Australia) or improving youth mental health (Future Generation Global), shareholders are helping positively impact the lives of millions of young Australians.

Philanthropy awards

Future Generation won the Collaboration Award and was a finalist for the Innovation Award at the Australian Philanthropy Awards 2024, recognising our work in the prevention of youth mental health issues.
